Safety fears as scientists make first viruses designed by AI
AI-designed biological agents have moved from protein prediction into functioning viruses. Researchers created bacteriophages, viruses that infect bacteria rather than humans, and found that a cocktail of the generated phages killed E. coli strains that resisted naturally occurring phages. The result points to a potential new route for treating persistent, drug-resistant infections, especially when existing phage libraries fail.
