Anthropic is asking Wall Street to believe in AGI
Anthropic's reported IPO filing would give AI builders a rare look at the economics of a frontier model company: how revenue, inference costs, chip spending, cloud commitments, and model development translate into margins. The Verge says Anthropic has filed an S-1 for a Nasdaq listing and could begin trading as soon as next month, targeting a valuation between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion. The bigger question is what investors must assume for that valuation to hold. Anthropic's case reportedly rests on aggressive expectations about demand for Claude, improving compute efficiency, and progress toward AGI. For practitioners, the filing's value is less about the prospective share price than the operating data: it could reveal whether enterprise AI revenue is scaling faster than training and serving costs, and how dependent a leading model provider remains on continued access to capital and infrastructure. Those numbers would offer a useful benchmark for anyone building on, competing with, or financing frontier models.
